Catching the Mouse
Out of the corner of my eye
I caught the mouse
who slipped under my front door
who made a dash
for the coat closet
at 6 a.m.
Was I at last ready
to explore the possibility that I
could become my own counterpart?
“A figure with a home
inviting those in need of wisdom
to enter” as M.D. Coogan once put it?
“Come, eat of my bread”
and of my winter coat and “walk
in the way of insight."
Shall I become
orderly and successful
the proverbial personification
of a good catch?
My speech will be no longer foolish
and seductive –
strange?
