Without Benefit of Job
Like Satan going to and fro
and up and down on earth,
his latter years
are testing him unfairly.
Is he to believe
that no sins
or tragic flaws
spelling mistakes
missed appointments
vacant stares
manifold past
or present
romantic wrong-
or right-
doings
account for his agony?
Without benefit of Job
he is high priest
driven by grief to God
with flames ignited in his gut
combusting his own well-being.
